Aberdeen IronBirds News Release
The Aberdeen IronBirds got a standout starting pitching performance and a season-high, ten hits, but it still wasn't enough to give the club its first win of the season. The Birds left the bases loaded in the 9th and lost 6-5 at Brooklyn, falling to 0 and 4 on the season.
Brad Bergesen, a 19-year-old righty, pitched very well in his Aberdeen debut, giving up just 1 run and 2 hits in 5.1 innings pitched. Last year's 4th-round draft pick from Pleasanton, California left with a 2-0 lead and one man on in the sixth. He walked one and fanned six and threw 81 pitches.
Brooklyn would score three in the sixth and seventh for a 6-2 lead before Aberdeen pushed across three in the 8th to pull within 6 to 5. In that inning, Nolan Reimold, Matt Pulley and Corey Shafer knocked in runs.
In the top of the 9th, Zach Davis and Ryan Steinbach singled to put runners on the corners with no outs. Aberdeen also had the bases loaded with one down, but could not score a run to tie the game.
Dixon went 3-4 and is 6-9 the last two games. Steinbach and Pulley added two hits each and Shafer had a 2-rbi night.
Don Levinski, the second of four pitchers Aberdeen used in the game, took the loss, falling to 0-1.
