Brooklyn Cyclones News Release

For the second night in a row, the Brooklyn Cyclones fought back from an early two run deficit to win the game. The ‘Clones topped the Aberdeen IronBirds by the score of 6-5 on Friday night at KeySpan Park. Sal Aguilar (1-0), in his professional debut, was the victor for the Cyclones after pitching three innings of solid relief, allowing one run on two hits while striking out three.

The IronBirds and the Cyclones traded zeroes for the first four innings, but in the top of the fifth, the Birds scored twice to break the scoreless tie. Their lead didn't last very long though, because in the bottom of the sixth the Cyclones jumped in front for good. Joe Holden and Greg Gonzalez started the rally with consecutive walks, and when Jon Malo stroked a perfectly placed double down the left field line, Holden was plated and the deficit was cut in half. Gonzalez would later score on an Aberdeen error, and Caleb Stewart smashed a single into right field to score Malo. When the inning was over, the Cyclones had clawed all the way back and jumped in front by, 3-2.

In the seventh inning, the ‘Clones added to their lead when Armand Gaerlan led off the frame with a solo-blast. Greg Gonzalez followed Gaerlan with a single, and when Malo smashed a double off the wall, Gonzalez raced all the way around to score. Pacheco continued the rally, and chased Malo home with an RBI single to give the Cyclones a much-needed insurance run, and pushed the lead to 6-2. The IronBirds rallied in the eighth, scoring three times to trim the lead to 6-5, and in the ninth loaded the bases with only one out but Aristides Almenar managed to wiggle his way out of trouble to pick up his second save of the year.

The Cyclones will take on the IronBirds in the second game of a three game series Saturday night at KeySpan Park. Game time is 6:00pm and tickets can still be purchased over the phone by calling (718)507-TIXX or in person at the KeySpan Park box office beginning at 10am on Saturday morning.
