
Binghamton Outlasts Portland in 10 Innings

Portland, Maine - Pedro Zapata blasted a solo home run in the tenth inning to give the Binghamton Mets a 6-5 win over the Portland Sea Dogs Sunday afternoon before a crowd 6,045 at Hadlock Field.
The Sea Dogs jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead in the first inning. Jeremy Hazelbaker led-off the game with a single and stole his team leading seventh base of the season. Juan Carlos Linares, 2-for-3 with two walks, ripped a double to right-centerfield to score Hazelbaker.
Portland starter Stolmy Pimentel was outstanding, tossing six shutout innings, holding the Mets to four hits. He walked two and struck out six lowering his ERA to 2.95. Pimentel worked out of a jam in the fourth inning. Binghamton had runners at first and third with nobody out when Jefry Marte was caught stealing. Pimentel then struck out Raul Reyes and got Eric Campbell to pop-up to second end the threat. Pimentel would not factor into the decision.
The Mets batted around in the eighth, scoring five times on six hits and two walks. Raul Reyes blasted a two run homer off reliever Caleb Clay into the Sea Dogs bullpen in right field to break a 1-1 tie. Juan Centeno and Zapata each chipped-in with a RBI single.
The eighth inning explosion ended a 16 inning shutout streak by the Portland pitching staff.
Portland rebounded in the bottom half of the inning when Reynaldo Rodriguez and Bryce Brentz hit back-to-back homers to bring the Sea Dogs within a run. Rodriguez hit his team leading eighth home run, a two run shot over the Sullivan Tire sign in left-field. Brentz clubbed his fourth home run of the season to left center field off Darin Gorski.
Derrick Gibson and Ryan Dent singled in the ninth off Bradley Holt. Gibson tied the game at five on a Hazelbaker sacrifice fly to center to send the game into extra innings.
Zapata launched a Will Latimer (1-3) offering over the Maine Monster to give the Mets the 6-5 lead.
Holt (2-0) earned the win hurling 1.2 innings allowing a run on two hits. Adrian Rosario earned the save in his Double-A debut with a scoreless tenth inning.
The Sea Dogs will wrap-up the series and the homestand Sunday afternoon at 1:00 PM. Right-handed pitcher Chris Balcom-Miller (2-3, 5.30) will get the start for the Sea Dogs. Binghamton will send righty Greg Peavey (2-1, 5.45) to the hill. Miguel Abreu smacked a home run in the ninth inning off Aaron Kurcz to lift the Reading Phillies (14-6) to a 5-4 win over the Portland Sea Dogs (6-16) at Hadlock Field on Friday night.Portland starter Chris Hernandez was also effective scattering six hits over 5.2 innings allowing one run lowering his ERA to 1.69 on the season. The lone run off Hernandez crossed the plate in the first inning on a Sebastian Valle RBI single.Reading starter Tyler Cloyd was outstanding, taking a no-hitter into the sixth inning. Juan Carlos Linares broke-up the no-hitter with a two out single. Cloyd would not factor into the decision despite tossing six shutout innings allowing one hit and three walks, while notching seven strikeouts. He retired the first 11 batters of the game before walking Linares with two outs in the fourth, snapping his streak of 29.2 innings without allowing a walk, dating back to last season.The Reading Phillies (15-7) defeated the Portland Sea Dogs (7-17) 4-2 Sunday afternoon before a crowd of 5,957 at Hadlock Field.
