Chesapeake Baysox News Release

Harrisburg, PA - Despite equaling a season high with four errors, the Bowie Baysox (17-24) were able to hold off the Harrisburg Senators (22-19) and pick up their second consecutive victory, 2-1 on Saturday night.

Tim Bascom shutdown the Senators offense, throwing seven innings and allowing just one run on five hits with four strikeouts to earn his third win of the season.

The Baysox scored their only runs of the game in top of the fourth inning. With one out, Manny Machado singled and then Caleb Joseph hit his fourth home run of the season to give the Baysox a 2-0 lead.

Bascom entered the seventh inning having retired seven batters in a row, but Destin Hood led off the inning with a single. He moved to third on two wild pitches by Bascom and then scored when Chris Rahl reached an error to cut the lead to 2-1.

Sean Gleason replaced Bascom in the eighth inning and worked himself in and out of a jam. He hit the lead off batter Eury Perez and then threw a pick off attempt away to allow Perez to advance to second. Jeff Kobernus then bunted Perez to third. Gleason was able to retire the next two batters without allowing Perez to score to hold the lead for the Baysox.

Kyler Newby then pitched a perfect ninth inning with two strikeouts to finish off the win and earn his first save of the season.

Mike Ballard also had a strong outing for the Senators, but got the loss. He threw seven innings and allowed two runs on five hits with six strikeouts and no walks.

The Baysox will go for the series sweep tomorrow when they send RHP Bobby Bundy (2-6, 5.27) to the mound to take on RHP Paul Demny (2-2, 4.91).

The Baysox return home on Monday, May 21 for an eight-game homestand against the Richmond Flying Squirrels and Altoona Curve. The homestand will include a Jake Arrieta bobblehead giveaway, fireworks, Mustache Mania and much more.
