Akron RubberDucks News Release
Akron, OH - The Akron Aeros offense remained red-hot Saturday night at Canal Park as they torched the Richmond Flying Squirrels for 15 runs, winning 15-5. Saturday's victory comes on the heels of a 16-3 Aeros win on Friday, resulting in 31 runs scored in their last two games.
Akron's hit parade continued with a season-high 19 hits, besting the previous high of 16 from Friday night. Each Akron starter recorded a hit and a run scored in the game, and there were six multi-hit performances overall.
First baseman Chun Chen again led the offense with a 3-4 night including two runs scored, and raised his average to a .324 mark, currently best on the team. Ben Copeland, Adam Abraham, Chen, Juan Diaz, and Thomas Neal all recorded three-hit nights for the Aeros. Kyle Bellows added his second home run in as many games and fourth of the season.
Aeros started Giovanni Soto picked up his fourth win of the year, going 5 1/3 innings allowing one run while striking out three. Jose De La Torre and Preston Guilmet combined for 2 2/3 innings of shutout relief.
The Aeros took the lead for good in the first inning, scoring two runs courtesy of a wild pitch and an error. Richmond scored once in the third inning to bring the game to a 2-1 score, but the Aeros matched them with a run of their own in the third. The Akron offense broke the game open in the following inning with an eight-run fourth highlighted by a Thomas Neal two-run triple.
Richmond scored four runs in the ninth inning to bring their hit total to 10, but it was not nearly enough to match the Akron attack.
The Aeros (24-14) will look for the sweep in the final game of the three-game series against Richmond (20-21) on Sunday at 1:05. LHP T.J. McFarland (7-1, 1.86) is scheduled to pitch for Akron, while RHP Craig Wescott (3-1, 3.18) will take the hill for Richmond. All Aeros games are broadcast on Fox Sports 1350 AM and online at www.akronaeros.com.
