The Latest Tonight, the Binghamton Mets open the 2008 season against the Trenton Thunder...it's the second time Binghamton and Trenton have ever met on Opening Day. Trenton scored a 7-2 win over Binghamton at Waterfront Park to begin the 1999 season in a game that was suspended in the 5th inning on 4/9/1999 and resumed the following day...Binghamton's scheduled season opener has been against Akron the last three years, although last year's season-opening, four-game series at Canal Park was postponed due to snow.

About Binghamton The B-Mets were 61-81 last season, finishing last in the EL Northern Division for the second time in three years...tonight, the B-Mets begin their 17th consecutive Eastern League season...it is the 91st season of professional baseball in Binghamton, dating back to the 1885 Binghamton Bingoes of the New York State League...this is the 63rd EL season for a Binghamton baseball entry, dating back to the Binghamton Triplets, who were charter members of the EL (then known as the NY-Penn League) in 1923. The Triplets were in the EL from 1923-1963 and again in 1967 and 1968, Binghamton's last season of pro baseball until the B-Mets arrived in 1992.

About Trenton The New York Yankees affiliate moved into first place on the second day of the season in '07 and remained there the rest of the year, putting together an 83-59 record and winning the EL Northern by 12 ½ games. Trenton then took series from Portland and Akron in the playoffs to win the first EL title in franchise history...Trenton's won back-to-back division titles and has made the playoffs in each of the last three seasons...five of the Yankees' six Minor League affiliates made the postseason last year, and all six finished with winning records.

This ‘N That Wednesday, it was announced that the NY Mets and Binghamton have extended their Player Development Contract through the 2010 season. The last contract was due to expire at the end of this season...Binghamton is 10-6 in season openers, including a 5-3 mark when they open the season at home. Dating back to 1998, the B-Mets have won four of their last five home Opening Day games, with the only loss coming to Norwich in 2004...11 players on Binghamton's Opening Day roster have played for the B-Mets previously...when RHP Joe Hietpas gets into a game, it will be his club-record sixth season with the B-Mets, but first as
