Biloxi Shuckers News Release
MONTGOMERY, AL - Despite jumping out to an early 4-0 lead, the Biloxi Shuckers (12-12) fell to the Montgomery Biscuits (12-11) 14-5 on Thursday night at Riverwalk Stadium.
The Shuckers used the longball to strike first in the second. Joey Wiemer led off the inning with a double and Felix Valerio followed with an infield single, putting two men on for Thomas Dillard. The designated hitter unloaded on the first pitch he saw, planting it over the train tracks past the left-field wall for a three-run homer, his first of the season, vaulting the Shuckers to a 3-0 advantage.
Biloxi added an extra run in the top of the fourth inning. Valerio worked a lead-off walk and with two outs Cam Devanney singled and Noah Campbell walked, loading the bases for Sal Frelick, who singled to left, plating Valerio to widen the Shuckers' advantage to 4-0.
Montgomery stormed back for four runs in the bottom of the fourth. A sacrifice fly and fielder's choice brought in the first two runs and a Greg Jones double drove in two more.
Jakson Reetz gave the Shuckers the lead again in the top of the sixth with a solo homer to left, his fourth of the year, pushing Biloxi back in front 5-4. LHP Michael Costanzo (W, 1-1) responded by retiring the next three hitters in order. RHP J.T. Hintzen (L, 1-1) returned for the bottom of the sixth inning but walked the lead-off batter before a single, fielder choice and another single drove in the tying and go-ahead run. Montgomery would tag on one more in the sixth, one in the seventh and six in the eighth.
Biloxi continues their series against the Biscuits on Friday night at Riverwalk Stadium. RHP Carlos Luna (0-1, 2.12) takes the mound for the Shuckers against Montgomery RHP Michael Mercado (0-2, 7.80) for a 6:35 pm first pitch.
