Bill "Spaceman" Lee Pitching for Ottawa Champions at 72-Years-Old
August 3, 2018 - Canadian American League (Can-Am)
Ottawa Champions News Release
OTTAWA - Montreal Expos fan-favourite Bill "Spaceman" Lee will take the mound for the Ottawa Champions when they face the Rockland Boulders on Monday, September 3, 2018.
The 72-year-old hurler will get the start for Ottawa as part of Montreal Expos Day at RCGT Park, presented by ExposFest. Another former Expo will be available out of the bullpen, as Dennis "Oil Can" Boyd will come in to relieve Lee.
It promises to be a festive atmosphere at the ballpark, as Lee and Boyd will be joined by fellow Expos alumni Dave Cash, Rondell White and Cliff Floyd. The day will feature autograph sessions, silent auctions and proceeds from every ticket will be donated to the CHEO and the Montreal Children's Hospital.
Ottawa has a deep connection with the former Montreal franchise - the Ottawa Lynx were the Expos AAA affiliate from 1993 to 2002. Both White and Floyd spent time in Ottawa and at RCGT Park while in the Expos system.
This will not be the first time that Lee and Boyd will appear in a Can-Am League game. Lee started a game for the Brockton Rox in 2010, pitching into the sixth inning while allowing two runs and picking up the win. Boyd played for Brockton in 2005, appearing in 17 games at the age of 45.
Fans can purchase their tickets for the game on Monday, September 3 at ottawachampions.com and at the RCGT Park box office. Tickets can also be acquired by calling the Champions at 613-745-BALL (2255).
