Portland Winterhawks News Release

As the Portland Winterhawks enter the stretch run of the season battling for first place in the WHL, this weekend fans will be treated to great action on the ice, and great fun in the stands.

It all begins Saturday when the Hawks host the Seattle Thunderbirds in a 3 p.m. matinee at Veterans Memorial Coliseum. The Coliseum's curtains will be open, allowing daylight into the arena bowl. It's also the Great Airplane Toss- after the game fans can throw paper airplanes at targets on the ice to win great prizes.

The grand prize is a $6,000 hot tub from Oregon Hot Tub. Other prizes include a $300 Burgerville gift basket, $300 Les Schwab gift card, a trip to Tahoe with a stay at Aston Lakeland Village, a one-night stay at Seventh Mountain Resort and two lift tickets to Mt. Bachelor, a round of golf four at the Reserve Vineyards and Golf Club and Winterhawks ticket packages.

On Sunday Portland hosts the Tri-City Americans at 5 p.m. in the Rose Garden, their divisional rival with whom the Hawks are neck-and-neck with for first place overall in the WHL. While the two teams battle on the ice, The Famous Chicken will be entertaining fans in the stands. The Chicken has been a fan favorite at sporting events all over the world for decades. His zany antics are always a crowd pleaser, so fans shouldn't miss this great night of family fun.

Fans can purchase tickets for these games at winterhawks.com, the Rose Quarter box office and the Winterhawks' ticket office located in Veterans Memorial Coliseum.
