Big Seventh Inning Extends Winning Streak

EDINBURG, TEXAS ---- The Edinburg Roadrunners had a seven run seventh inning en route to a 9-3 victory over the Coastal Bend Thunder Wednesday night at the Edinburg Baseball Stadium.

Tim Haines (5-4) picked up his fifth win of the season after he pitched seven shutout innings and scattered six hits and striking out four.

The Roadrunners (23-24) scored against Coastal Bend starter Frank James (3-2) in the bottom of the fourth inning after an RBI single by Eric Gonzalez that allowed Hunter Owen to score from third base. Osiel Flores made it a 2-0 game with an RBI ground out that allowed Bryon Smith to cross home plate.

In the bottom of the seventh Edinburg sent 13 batters to the plate and scored seven runs on five hits while walkeing in three runs in the inning. Robert Matlock and Flores hit RBI singles in the inning which helped the Roadrunners extend their lead to 9-0.

Coastal Bend (21-26) scored three runs in the ninth inning on two hits against the Roadrunners' bullpen. Ricardo Serrano recorded the final two outs of the inning stranding the bases loaded for the Thunder to end the game.

The Roadrunners and Thunder will play the final game of this four-game series on Thursday night at the Edinburg Baseball Stadium. Miguel Martinez (3-4) is expected to face Alejandro Martinez (1-1) with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
