Akron RubberDucks News Release

Gavin Williams spins six hitless innings as the Akron RubberDucks offense scores four in the seventh to drop the Erie SeaWolves 5-1 in the series opener on Tuesday night at UPMC Park.

Turning Point

The RubberDucks offense finally cracked the scoreboard in the top of the seventh. After Jhonkensy Noel walked and Johnathan Rodriguez doubled to put runners on second and third with no outs, Daniel Schneemann lined a single into right center to score both and make it 2-0 Akron.

Mound Presence

Gavin Williams was brilliant in his start for Akron. The right hander retired the first 10 SeaWolves in a row before an error allowed the first and only base runner to reach against him all night. Williams tossed six hitless innings striking out four. Aaron Pinto followed with two innings allowing one run while striking out five. Carlos Vargas tossed a perfect ninth.

Duck Tales

Akron kept adding on in the seventh when Jose Tena singled home Schneemann and Chris Roller to make it 4-0 Ducks. Bryan Lavastida added one more for good measure in the eighth when he launched a solo home run to make it 5-1 Akron.

Notebook
