Big Inning Dooms Tobs

Wilson Tobs News Release


WILSON, N.C. - The Edenton Steamers scored five runs in the fourth inning on Wednesday night to coast past the Wilson Tobs 7-1 at Historic Fleming Stadium.

Edenton (14-4) led the game 1-0 as they came to bat in the fourth inning against Clay Smith (L, 1-1) and they were able to break the game wide open. After the first two were able to reach before Blaise Fernandez doubled home a run and after a couple of Tobs errors and back-to-back RBI singles from DJ Johnson and Jason Kanzler, the Steamers led 6-0.

Wilson (6-14) was not able to get any offense against Matt Adams (W, 2-0) as he worked five innings allowing just three hits. The Tobs, however, were able to score a run in the eighth inning when Jackson Slaid singled Zack Houchins home for the final 7-1 margin.

The Tobs are back in action on Thursday night at 7:05 when they travel to J.P. Riddle Stadium to battle the Fayetteville SwampDogs. Wilson makes its return to Historic Fleming Stadium on Friday night at 7:05 when they host the SwampDogs

The Wilson Tobs are a proud member of the Coastal Plain League, the nation's hottest summer collegiate baseball league. Celebrating its 16th season in 2012, the CPL features 14 teams playing in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. The CPL gives college players the chance to refine their skills with the use of wooden bats. Players are housed with local families for the summer and past experiences have been very positive for both the players and hosts. Furthermore, the CPL has had over 1,000 alumni drafted and 51 alums - including 2011 AL MVP and CY Young winner Justin Verlander - make their Major League debut thus far.
