Forest City Owls News Release

Forest City, NC- Ryan Hander recorded his third quality start in as many starting appearances, leading the Owls to a 4-0 win over the Martinsville Mustangs on Wednesday night. The Nebraska product held the Mustangs to just six hits over seven shutout innings. Hander has now allowed just one run in 19 innings as a starter this season.

Martinsville threatened a couple of times. The Mustangs loaded the bases with no one out in the 4th inning, but Hander got Nick Ferdinand to bounce into a 1-2-3 double play. Then, he struck out Ian Harvey looking to end the inning. In the 6th, the Mustangs had runners on first and second base with no one out again. Hander got Jake Stone to ground out, John Faircloth to line out, and Ferdinand to fly out, stranding the lead runners on second and third.

All of Forest City's offense came against Martinsville starter Taylor Hart in the 2nd inning. Stephen Tarkenton and Nick McQuail started the frame with back-to-back doubles, giving the Owls a 1-0 lead. After Trey Wimmer was hit by a pitch, Kurt Seiders grounded into a fielder's choice, putting runners at first and third with one out. Nate Chong then blasted a pitch over the mini-Monster in left field for his team-high third home run of the year, making it 4-0 Forest City.

From there, Hander made the lead hold up. Jason Driver and Luis Paula each pitched an inning of relief to finish the game for the Owls. Chong and Tarkenton both had multi-hit games for Forest City. Tarkenton now has at least two hits in four of his last five games. Tonight's game was the beginning of a stretch of 17 games in 16 days without an off day for the Owls.

Forest City heads to Gastonia for a doubleheader tomorrow night, starting at 6:00 PM. The format will be two 7-inning games with a half-hour break in between games.
