Big Fifth Inning Helps Push Otters' Win Streak to Eight

EVANSVILLE, Ind. - The Evansville Otters batted around in a big fifth inning Tuesday, capitalizing on a trio of home runs to defeat the Schaumburg Boomers 10-6 by night's end.
Starters Shumpei Yoshikawa and Ryan O'Reilly settled in well, both getting out of early scenarios with runners on.
In the third, Schaumburg got the offense rolling with back-to-back doubles from Mike Hart and Braxton Davidson to score the game's first run.
The 1-0 lead didn't last long for the Boomers, as the Otters exploded offensively in the fifth.
After a one-out single by Andy Armstrong, Elijah MacNamee hit his third home run in three days to put the Otters up a run.
Four batters later, with the bases loaded, Jeffrey Baez hit his second grand slam of the season to left, bumping the Otters' lead to 6-1.
Another two batters later, Anthony Torreullas smacked his third home run of the season to left field, a two-run shot that put Evansville up 8-1.
In the seventh, the Boomers managed a single run thanks to a bases-loaded walk to Mike Hart.
One inning later, another singular run scored as Jordan Wiley hit a home run of his own.
In the bottom of the eighth, Evansville cashed in on an insurance opportunity, scoring runs on an RBI single from Steven Sensley and RBI hit by pitch by George Callil.
As the game entered the ninth, Schaumburg trailed 10-3. Following a leadoff double and single, Hart drove in a run with an RBI double.
An error on Justin Felix allowed another pair of runs to score in the ninth, but the Otters' insurance runs proved their worth to give Evansville a 10-6 win.
O'Reilly earned the win, allowing two runs on seven hits. Yoshikawa took the loss, dropping him to 3-5 on the season.
Miles Gordon recorded three hits while Sensley and Armstrong each had two-hit outings. Baez, MacNamee and Torreullas all had multi-RBI games thanks to their home runs.
With their win, Evansville advances their win streak to eight games, a season-high.
The Otters advanced their lead in the Frontier League in home runs to 75.
Evansville and Schaumburg continue their midweek series Wednesday night at 6:35 p.m. at Bosse Field, gates open at 5:30 p.m.
The Evansville Otters are the 2006 and 2016 Frontier League champions.
