Bethlehem Steel FC Hosts Keystone Rival Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC in Friendly
March 2, 2018 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Philadelphia Union II News Release
BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Bethlehem Steel FC will look for an exhibition sweep of its Keystone State rivals when the club hosts Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC on Sunday, March 4. Kick off from the Power Training Complex is scheduled for 1 p.m. with the match free and open to the public.
Steel FC is coming off a 3-2 setback to Villanova on Wednesday, where midfielder AJ Paterson netted his first goal of the preseason on a cross from Chris Nanco. Fellow newcomer, forward Aidan Apodaca, continues to showcase his impressive scoring rate, as he took a volley from trialist Mickey George and scored his third goal of the preseason slate. Apodaca leads the team in preseason goals along side Philadelphia Union Academy products Brenden Aaronson and Tonny Temple.
Sunday's match will be the second friendly of the preseason against a USL opponent, with Steel FC rallying to defeat Penn FC, 5-2, back on February 21. The friendly will be the first ever-preseason meeting between the two Pennsylvania-based squads and promises to be as close as their previous regular-season matchups. Over the past two seasons, Steel FC and the Hounds are split, 2-2-2, with Steel FC outscoring their opponent by a 10-9 margin.
Riverhounds SC enters the contest a perfect 5-0 in their preseason schedule thus far. Under the direction of new head coach Bob Lilley, the Hounds are coming off victories against the University of Charleston, 2-0, and the University of Akron, 4-2.
