
Berti's Walk-Off Gives Fisher Cats 3-2 Win

MANCHESTER, NH---It was Christmas In July at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium and a big crowd received a nice gift. Jon Berti capped a two-run rally in the bottom of the ninth inning with an RBI single as the Fisher Cats came back to beat Portland 3-2 before 6,312 on Sunday afternoon.
The Fisher Cats (47-53) were down to a final strike before pinch-hitter Andy Fermin worked out a walk against reliever Aaron Kurcz (LP: 2-2). Pinch-hitter Matt Newman followed with a walk and Dalton Pompey singled to tie the game. Berti followed with his game winning single to left field, his second RBI of the game.
Dustin Antolin (WP: 4-4) worked a scoreless ninth inning for the win, despite allowing three hits. The frame ended with Michael Crouse throwing out Peter Hissey at the plate on a single by Derrik Gibson.
Portland opened the scoring in the top of the first inning. Sean Coyle delivered a single to right field and scored on a double to left by Dave Chester for a 1-0 lead.
The Fisher Cats came right back to tie the game in the bottom of the first inning. Pompey raced to third on a single and error, scoring on a Berti groundout.
The Sea Dogs (64-37) moved back in front in the top of the fifth inning. Ryan Dent doubled and moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by Gibson. Shannon Wilkerson's single to right put Portland up 2-1.
Casey Lawrence started for the Fisher Cats, working a seasons-best eight innings. He allowed two runs on ten hits, but did not walk a batter. He struck out seven but did not figure in the decision.
Brian Johnson, Portland's starter, allowed one run (unearned) in six innings. Reliever Dayan Diaz, in his debut with the Sea Dogs, tossed two innings of scoreless relief.
The homestand continues on Monday with a twi-night doubleheader against the Trenton Thunder at 6:05 p.m. LHP John Anderson (3-1, 4.70) will start one of the games for the Fisher Cats. RHP Jaron Long (2-0, 3.00) will start a game for Trenton. The first 1,000 kids (12 & under) will receive a free Fisher Cats Jersey Pillow.
