
Berry, Nolan Lead Mavericks Past RiverKings

SOUTHAVEN, MS --- Mike Berry's shorthanded goal in the second period backed up the 25-save performance of goaltender Robby Nolan in the Missouri Mavericks' 1-0 win over the Mississippi RiverKings on Tuesday, February 8th at Southaven's DeSoto Civic Center.
Neither team scored in the first period, as the Mavericks out shot the RiverKings by a 10-6 margin.
Missouri took the lead in the second period of play with a shorthanded goal from Mike Berry, his 15th of the season and second shorthanded tally at 1:01. The lead held up, as the Mavericks took the one-goal lead into the locker room after forty minutes of play.
That lead would hold up in the final period, despite the RiverKings outshooting the Mavericks 8-5 in the period and 25-22 for the game.
Neither team scored on the power play. RiverKings net minder Alexander Pechurskiy stopped 21 shots but the one goal allowed dropped his record for the season to 11-9-0. Nolan improved to 16-10-3 with his third shutout of the season.
Mississippi finished its longest home stand of the season with a 4-4-1 record and is now 22-22-2 overall. Missouri improved to 22-17-4 for the year.
Up next, Mississippi faces its second "three-in-three" weekend, heading first to Illinois to play the PrairieThunder in Bloomington Friday night at 7:05 PM, followed by a visit to Tulsa to meet the Oilers on Saturday, February 12th at 7:35 PM.
The RiverKings return home Sunday, February 13th for their annual "Pink in the Rink" game against the Wichita Thunder, a game starting at 3:05 PM. A special jersey will be worn which will be auctioned off after the game benefitting the American Cancer Society and the fight against cancer. In addition, if $2,500 is raised through pledges, RiverKings forward R.G. Flath will have his head shaven at the end of the contest. Check the RiverKings web site for more details.
