Mallards Stop Colorado 4-1

MOLINE, Ill. (February 8, 2011)- Eric Giosa scored one goal and added two assists and David Brown made 33 saves as the host Quad City Mallards defeated the Colorado Eagles 4-1 Tuesday night. The loss halted the Eagles' seven-game winning streak.

The Mallards ripped off four unanswered goals after falling behind 1-0. A.J. Hau opened the scoring at 8:09 of the first period with a wrist shot from the left wing circle, but the Mallards would rebound to tie the game just 29 seconds later when Giosa drove the puck home from the slot.

The Mallards struck twice in 57 seconds to jump out to a two-goal lead early in the second period. Quad City was on the power play when Joe Blaznek's blue line blast snapped the 1-1 deadlock at 2:06 of the second. At 3:33 Mike McLean stole the puck in the offensive zone and rifled it in under the cross bar from the left wing circle to stretch the gap to 3-1.

Tyler Shelast capped off the Quad City win by scoring an empty net goal with 1:22 left in the third period.

The Mallards on Tuesday activated defenseman Tyler Townsend, while Quad City defenseman Adam Maccarone was granted leave by the Central Hockey League.

The Mallards return to action on the road Friday night against the Fort Wayne Komets. The Flock next takes to the ice at home on Friday evening, February 18 at 7:05 p.m. against the Bloomington PrairieThunder
