Evansville IceMen News Release

EVANSVILLE, IN.--- The Evansville IceMen certainly demonstrated to be the most proactive member club in the Central Hockey League on the league's official trade deadline day today.

In their third separate deal to cap the busy day, the IceMen sent defenseman TOM GALVIN to the Bloomington PrairieThunder in exchange for veteran defenseman JAMIE LOVELL. The latest IceMen trade takes effect immediately with both players reporting to their new clubs this week.

LOVELL, 28, is currently in his sixth pro season and his third in the CHL. The 6-0, 190lb native of Elora, Ontario was in his initial campaign with the PrairieThunder. In 41-games with Bloomington thus far this season, the left-hand shooting blueliner compiled 15-points on 3-goals, 12-assists with 28-PIM. His totals included 1-PPG and 3-PPA.

Prior to his stint in Bloomington this year, Lovell starred for three seasons in the IHL with the Port Huron Icehawks. In 2009-10 with the Port Huron club, he engineered 29-points, playing in all 76-games. His 8-goals, 21-assists ranked him as the Icehawks third top scoring defenseman. He also added 3-PPG, 8-PPA for 11-PP/points and a solid +7 rating. His 171-SOG paced all Port Huron defensemen.

His best pro season came in 2008-09 when he amassed 35-points on 13-goals, 22-assists to finish in the top 10 in IHL defensemen scoring. That same season, his 8-PPG and 5-GWG topped all IHL members of the blue line brigade.

A former collegiate standout in a four-year career at the U. of Guelph, Lovell originally launched his pro career in the CHL in 2005-06 with the Odessa Jackalopes before plying his craft with two other CHL member clubs, the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees and Tulsa Oilers.

GALVIN, 31, is in his eighth pro season and his first-ever in the CHL. The former Notre Dame standout had collected 6-assists in 15-games with 14-PIM for Evansville. The IceMen had signed the American-bred from Staten Island, NY shortly after the inception of the current season as a free agent.

In 2009-10, he commenced the campaign in the IHL with the Muskegon Lumberjacks before being summoned to the AHL where he performed for a trio of teams; namely, the Grand Rapids Griffins, Providence Bruins and Manitoba Moose. Galvin actually saw service in four seasons with Grand Rapids.
