Frederick Keys News Release
Frederick scored five runs in the third inning and never looked back, getting a big night from pitchers Ryan Berry and Cole McCurry as the Keys defeated Myrtle Beach 9-1 at BB&T Coastal Field.
The rally took hold as 3B Buck Britton singled to lead off the inning beginning a rally of five consecutive batters to reach. With Frederick atop 1-0 and the bases loaded, SS Greg Miclat started another big night with a ground rule double driving home two runs to put the Keys up 3-0. Two batters later, RF Ronnie Welty drove home two runs and the lead was 5-0.
That was all the Keys pitching staff needed as Berry dominated through five efficient innings. Berry allowed just two hits on the evening, both coming with two outs. He gave way to McCurry who worked the final four innings to notch his first professional save.
LF Xavier Avery had another big night going 3-for-5 with two runs scored. SS Greg Miclat, who authored a four-hit performance a night ago, drove home four runs. The first five Keys in the lineup all had multi-hit nights.
The Keys go for the sweep in the series finale Sunday, June 20th at 6:05 p.m. at BB&T Coastal Field against Myrtle Beach. RHP Ryan O'Shea will get the final start for Frederick. Coverage will begin at 5:45 p.m. on The Keys Baseball Network.
Frederick will return home for a weeklong homestand beginning Thursday, June 24th at 7:00 p.m. against Winston-Salem. For tickets contact the Keys Box Office at 1-877-8-GO-KEYS or purchase online at frederickkeys.com.
