THE HILLCATS: Lynchburg let go of a late lead last night and lost 5-4 in 10 innings at Potomac in the series opener...The Hillcats have now dropped four out of their last five games...Tonight is game two of a three-game set that is the final series of the first half of the season...
VS. POTOMAC: The Hillcats are 5-6 against the Nationals thus far this season with both teams taking a series on their home field and last weekend they split a four-game series...Lynchburg is 159-151 against Potomac all-time and are 72-77 at the Pfitz...Last season the Cats won the season series with the P-Nats 11-9...
LOST THAT SPARK: Last night Lynchburg lost their fifth straight series opener...After starting the season 8-1 in series openers, the Hillcats are just 4-8 since...
CATCH YA LATER: This season the Hillcats have faced RHP Brad Peacock four times this season and he is a combined 0-2 with a 6.23 ERA (15 earned runs in 21 and 2/3 innings pitched)...In those four starts Peacock has only allowed a combined three earned runs in the first four innings of those outings (three earned runs in 16 innings, a 1.69 ERA)...In the fifth and sixth innings though his ERA balloons to 40.45 (12 earned runs allowed in two and 2/3 innings)...Last night Peacock had a no-hitter through five and 1/3 innings of action, then four of the next five he faced base knocks and in the inning a two-run deficit turned into a two-run lead...
MONEY'S WORTH: Last night Hillcats Manager Pat Kelly was ejected or the first time this season in the bottom of the eighth inning...1B Bill Rhinehart hit a ball to right-center field that was originally ruled that it stayed in the ballpark for an RBI double...After the two-man umpire crew met to discuss the call though, they reversed the call and ruled it a home run to tie the game at four...Kelly sprinted out of the dugout to argue the call and shorty after was tossed from the contest by home plate umpire Jacob Danielsen...The Cats skipper threw his batting helmet and was extremely animated in displaying his displeasure with the call...
INTO THE FRAY: UTIL Brodie Greene was promoted to Lynchburg from Rookie Billings yesterday and last night made his professional debut...He batted second and started at short stop and went 1-for-5 with his first career hit as a pro...Just ten days earlier he was playing his final collegiate game for Texas A&M in the NCAA Coral Gables Regional...The Aggies lost to Miami in the regional, a team that was led by C Yasmani Grandal, who was the Reds first round selection (12th overall) in this year's draft...Greene was the fourth round selection of the Reds in the same draft and batted .395 with 14 homers, 55 RBI and 23 steals in 65 games this season with the Aggies...Greene was a second-team All-Big 12 selection and in his college days he played every defensive position except catcher and first base...
BACK-TO-BACK BRUISERS: RHP Sean Watson pitched on consecutive days for the second time this season last night and all three men he faced reached and he allowed the game-winning run to score in the bottom of the tenth inning...The only other time he pitched on back-to-back days Watson retired the first man he faced and then the next four he saw all reached before he exited the game...In those two outings combined he has retired just one of the eight batters he has faced...
IN THE MARKET: OF Josh Fellhauer went 2-for-5 last night with a double and a run scored...He batted in the sixth spot in the order, which marked the first time this season he has hit anywhere in the line-up other than first or second in the order...Fellhauer was 1-for-15 (.067) in his previou four games, was 4-for-27 (.148) in his last nine contests and was batting .167 (9for-54) in the month of June before his multi-hit game last night, which was his first since June 8th...
TONIGHT'S OPPOSING PITCHERS: RHP Jesse Estrada was acquired by the Nationals in a trade with the Chicago Cubs in 2009...Last year was his fifth season in the Cubs system after they selected him in the 31st round of the 2004 draft out of Grayson County College...Last season he pitched for four different teams (two in the Nationals system and two in the Cubs) from the Advanced-A level to Triple-A...With Potomac he went 0-3 with a 3.19 ERA with one save in 22 games...This season with the P-Nats he has gone 2-1 with a 3.87 ERA in 17 games (two starts)...Last season he pitched against Lynchburg four times and had an 0-1 mark with a 6.75 ERA...This season he has seen the Hillcats twice in relief and in his last start and has gone 1-0 with a 2.45 ERA (three earned runs in 11 innings pitched)...
