Potomac Nationals News Release

The Potomac Nationals hammered the Lynchburg Hillcats 9-2 Saturday in Game Two of the three-game series. The P-Nats hold a 2-0 advantage in the series as they improve to 31-38 on the season.

Potomac got on the board in the first on an RBI-double by Derek Norris and a subsequent two-run homer by Bill Rhinehart, his second in as many nights. The three run lead carried the P-Nats into the third.

Lynchburg cut the lead to 3-2 in the third. Miguel Rojas led off the inning with a walk, Cody Puckett singled to put runners on first and second, then Carlos Mendez doubled to left to score both. But that would be the end of the Lynchburg scoring.

Potomac got two back in the bottom of the same frame as Chris Curran hit a leadoff triple and scored on a Lombardozzi single. On the same play, Lombardozzi took third base on a throwing error by the shortstop, then immediately scored on a sacrifice fly by Mike Burgess.

Norris put the game away in the fifth inning. With Lombardozzi on third after a leadoff triple and Burgess on first after a hit batsman, Norris homered to left to put the game out of reach at 8-2.

The P-Nats finally bought a little insurance in the sixth as Burgess tripled to drive in Lombardozzi from first.

Lombardozzi was 2-for-4 with a walk, four runs, a triple and an RBI in the win. Norris was 2-for-4 with four RBI and a pair of runs.

Potomac starter Jesse Estrada earned his third win of the season, holding the Hillcats two runs on six hits through five innings. Mark Serrano was charged with the loss for Lynchburg after allowing eight runs, seven earned, on seven hits in four innings of work.

The Potomac bullpen was strong, with Clayton Dill, Joe Bisenius and Dan Leatherman combining for four hitless innings.

The P-Nats and Hillcats meet again for the series and first-half finale Sunday at 1:05 p.m. The newest addition to the Potomac staff, Trevor Holder, will get the call. He will face Lance Janke of Lynchburg.
