
Berrios Named FSL Player of the Month for June

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (July 3, 2014) - Fort Myers Miracle right-hander Jose Berrios was named the Florida State League Player of the Month for June as announced by League President Chuck Murphy on Thursday afternoon.
Berrios, 20, is the No. 5 prospect in the Minnesota Twins organization according to Baseball America and was a first round draft pick out of Puerto Rico in 2012. In six starts in June, Berrios posted a 4-1 record including a complete game, seven inning shutout on June 1 against the Tampa Yankees. In that game, Berrios recorded a season and career-high 13 strikeouts.
In 41 innings pitched in May, Berrios allowed just seven earned runs for a 1.54 ERA. Issuing just five walks, Berrios recorded 53 strikeouts and opponents in the FSL hit just .168 against him for the month.
Overall for the 2014 season, Berrios is 8-3 with a 2.09 ERA over 15 starts. In 90.1 innings, Berrios has recorded a career-high 105 strikeouts and surrendered just 22 walks. Selected as a FSL Midseason All-Star, Berrios was chosen to start the FSL All-Star Game in Bradenton, Fla. on June 14 and pitched a scoreless inning.
On June 24, Major League Baseball announced that Berrios would represent the Twins organization on the World team roster for the SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game on Sunday, July 13.
Berrios is scheduled to start the series opener with the Charlotte Stone Crabs on Friday, July 4 at Hammond Stadium. Set to begin at 12:35 p.m. for a Day Game of Independence, the Miracle will give away a Ghostbusters Mini-Bobblehead to the first 400 fans to enter the ballpark. Gates open at 11:30 a.m.
