Berrios Named Batavia Downs Player of the Week

Rochester Red Wings pitcher Jose Berrios has been named the Batavia Downs Gaming and Racetrack Player of the Week for the period of Aug. 3-10.

For the week, Berrios went 1-1 in two starts with 13 strikeouts in 14 innings pitched. He allowed 12 hits and 3 earned runs with just two walks. For the season, Berrios is a combined 11-4 with a 3.06 ERA in 22 starts with Double-A Chattanooga and the Wings, with 135 strikeouts in 135 1/3 innings pitched.

The 21-year-old Berrios was selected by the Minnesota Twins in the first round (32nd overall) of the 2012 First-Year Player Draft out of Papa Juan XXIII High School in Bayamon, Puerto Rico...pitched for the World Team in the MLB Futures Game at Target Field in 2014, and again this July in Cincinnati.

Batavia Downs Racetrack and Batavia Downs Gaming present the award each week during the regular season. Batavia Downs Gaming is a Video Gaming Center owned and operated by Western Regional Off-Track Betting Corporation in association with the New York Lottery.
