New Jersey Jackals News Release

Little Falls, NJ - It was business as usual for starter Joel Bennett as he put together another outstanding outing to lead the Jackals to a 6-1 win over Les Capitales de Quebec at Yogi Berra Stadium.

Bennett scattered three hits over eight innings to improve to 7-1 on the season. The veteran had a no-hitter working until the top of the fifth with two outs until Simon Legare poked a double just inside the first base line. Bennett mixed in six strikeouts and walked only Geoffrey Tomlinson to start the ballgame.

Jackals hitters had no such trouble putting the bat on the ball, slugging 13 hits, including five that went for extra bases.

The home side wasted little time lighting up the scoreboard. Zach Smithlin led off the game with his 16th double of the year, and Ricardo Cordova plated him with a double of his own. Darryl Brinkley then followed with an RBI single to make it 2-0.

Chris Rowan got the ball rolling again in the top of the fourth with a solo homerun to right field, his 9th of the year. Rowan knocked another run home with a double in the fifth to complete his stellar night.

In all, six Jackals starters had multiple hits, and the first five hitters went a combined 10-for-19.

For Les Capitales, Bill Greenwell hit a solo homerun in the eighth inning to get the visitors on the board. Starter Julien Tucker went five innings, allowing 12 hits and six earned runs.
