Modesto Nuts News Release

Modesto, CA. - Pithing reigned supreme for the Modesto Nuts in their 1-0 win over the Stockton Ports on Thursday night at John Thurman Field.

The win ends the Nuts (60-56; 27-19) season-long, six-game skid and they avoid a three-game series sweep at the hands of the Ports (59-57; 21-24).

Michael Benjamin Jr.'s first-inning solo home run was just enough for Kyle Freeland (W, 1-0) who was dominant over seven, shutout fames. The southpaw allowed five hits but did not walk a batter and struck out four.

Matt Carasiti (S, 17/19) worked around a pair of ninth-inning singles to secure the skid-snapping triumph.

Kyle Finnegan (L, 6-8) was good for the Ports. The righty only allowed two hits over five innings with five strikeouts and no walks.

The Blaze come to town on Friday night to start a three-game weekend set. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Coverage on ModestoNuts.com will start at 7:00 p.m. To listen on your iPhone or iPad click here. For PC and Flash enabled Android phones click here.
