DES MOINES, IA Dec 27, 2011- The 2011 NBA D-League Champion Iowa Energy's bench outscored Sioux Falls' reserves 69-20 on their way to a decisive 121-103 victory Tuesday night.
The night began very ominous for Iowa, as Sioux Falls jumped out to a 13-0 lead behind six early points from guard Casey Mitchell. The Energy battled back quick, as an Andrew Drevo jump shot with 39.6 seconds remaining in the quarter gave Iowa a 26-25 lead. A pair of Energy baskets to close the half put the home team up 30-25.
The 2nd quarter was more of the same for Iowa, as Michael Tveidt scored 10 points in the stanza to help push the Energy lead to 69-50 at the break. Sioux Falls would narrow the gap to nine points in the 4th quarter, but Iowa had an answer every time the Skyforce got close. After Sioux Falls cut the lead to 106-97 with 6:05 left, Energy sharp shooter Moses Ehambe drilled a 3-pointer, and Andrew Drevo and Marqus Blakely each scored to put the game out of reach.
Tveidt led Iowa with 24 points, while Ehambe and Blakely added 22 points each. The win extends the Energy's lead in the Eastern Conference to 1.5 games over Springfield with a 9-4 record.
Sioux Falls was led by Mitchell's 29 point effort, while Charles Garcia added 27. The loss drops the Skyforce to 5-8 on the season.
The Energy host former Boston Celtic star Antoine Walker and his Idaho Stampede squad Friday night at 7pm in a "Bowl Day Blowout"! Fans who wear Iowa State, Iowa or Energy gear to the game can get $8 tickets. For more information, visit www.IowaNBA.com.
