
Beloit Roster Updated after Several Moves

BELOIT, WI- The Beloit Snappers and the Oakland Athletics have announced that INF Melvin Mercedes will go on the Disabled List. In return, INF Luis Baez will join the Snappers in South Bend, IN as they play the Silver Hawks, the MWL affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks, at 6:05pm.
In 2013, Baez played for the Vermont Lake Monsters (SS-A) where he batted .184, 12 RBI, and 4 stolen bases. Baez, the native of the Dominican Republic, signed as a free agent to a minor league contract with Oakland on April 16, 2008.
Also, C Phil Pohl moves to Sacramento, the AAA affiliate for Oakland. In return, C Iolana Akau will also join the Snappers in South Bend, IN tonight.
Akau, the native of Hawaii, was selected by the A's in the 20th round in the 2013 draft. Last year, Akau played for the AZL A's (R) where he batted .133 in just 11 games.
The Snappers are on the road in South Bend, IN tonight to finish off a 3 game series against the Silver Hawks. Beloit has beaten South Bend the last two nights. On Tuesday night the Snappers won by a score of 5-1 and on Wednesday night they won by a score of 3-2. The Snappers are now at 4-2. Tomorrow the Snappers continue their road trip as they head to West Michigan to face the Whitecaps, the MWL affiliate of the Detroit Tigers, for a 3 game series before heading back to Beloit.
The Snappers will be home next Monday and will be home for 6 nights as they face the Great Lakes Loons for 3 games and then the Lansing Lugnuts for 3 games. Game time on Monday, April 14th is at 6:30pm at Pohlman Field.
