Clinton Takes Series with 12-2 Win

(Clinton, IA)- Tyler O'Neil smacked a three-run home run in the bottom of the third inning to help the Clinton LumberKings defeat the Lake County Captains by a final of 12-2. At the Time of the three run homer the LumberKings led 5-0. Clinton took the series from the Captains by winning the final two games.

Clinton (4-3) scored first in the bottom half of the opening frame. With runners on the corners and nobody out Jack Reinheimer hit into a 6-3 double play, which plated the first run. Austin Wilson blasted his first homerun of the season over the center field wall and the score was 2-0.

With the score 5-0 Clinton, The LumberKings added to their lead. In the fourth inning, Clinton sent eight hitters to the plate and scored four times. The score after four was 9-0.

Lake County (4-3) scored a run in the top of the sixth inning. Jorge Martinez doubled and later scored on a Dorssys Paulino double. The score was 9-1. It became 9-2 in the top of the seventh when Eric Haas hit his first of two doubles and scored on a Nellie Rodriguez single. Clinton scored three times in the bottom of the seventh inning to conclude the scoring. The final was 12-2 Clinton.

RHP Dace Kime (0-2) got the start for Lake County and took the loss. Kime pitched three innings and allowed eight hits, eight runs, seven were earned, two walks and two homers. Kame struck out three. Alexis Paredes pitched three innings and allowed just one earned run on three hits, one walk and four strikeouts. Ben Heller pitched one inning of relief. He allowed three earned runs on three hits and one walk. Wander Beras pitched one scoreless inning as well for the Captains.

The LumberKings LHP Eddie Campbell (1-0) started and did not get the decision. Campbell pitched three and one third innings and allowed four hits and four walks. He struck out five. The win went to Blake Holovach (1-1) after he pitched two and two thirds innings in relief. He allowed one earned run, one walk and fanned five. Emilio Pagan got the save after pitching three innings and allowing one earned run. He allowed four hits and struck out four.

The Captains will head to Geneva, Illinois on Friday to take on the Kane County Cougars in the opener of a three game series. RHP Caleb Hamrick (0-0, 11.25) will start for the Captains and the Cougars will start RHP Daury Torrez (0-0, 1.80). First Pitch is at 7:30 PM from Fifth Third Bank Ballpark.
