BELOIT, WI - The Beloit Snappers will open Pohlman Field to a pair of Division-III colleges separated by just 21 miles this spring.
The park will host Beloit College's April 11 home baseball game against Rockford University, with the first pitch scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
"We're excited to have Beloit College back in what used to actually be their home field. We have a long standing relationship with Beloit College and their coach Dave DeGeorge,' said Snappers President Dennis Conerton.
"We are also hoping it brings in alumni from both colleges with Rockford University also being so close, Conerton continued. "It will be nice to have both teams play here for the first time in a few years."
Though it is not the first time Beloit College has appeared in a game at Pohlman Field, it has been a few years. In fact, this will mark the first time since 2012 that Pohlman Field has played host to both teams.
"We are very excited to return to action at Pohlman Field, it is a special experience for our players to play on a professional field and it's exciting for our fans, students and alumni" said Beloit Head Coach Dave DeGeorge. "For myself it is exciting too, having played little league, high school and college ball here it means a lot to come back."
For DeGeorge, the sentimental value doesn't stop there as the Buccaneers coach worked the first Beloit Brewers game in 1982.
"My first job was offered to me by George Spelius here at Pohlman field as a soda vendor, and if George told you to do something you did it!"
"I remember carrying that large metal cooler over my shoulders around the park that whole first game, but I loved every minute of it."
Rockford University is led by their coach Bob Koopman, who is entering his 21st year in coaching and his 12th at Rockford.
"It will be great to be back at Pohlman Field, after having not been there in six years it will be nice to return," said Koopman.
"Our players and the rest of our staff are looking forward to playing on a professional field that is always well maintained."
All tickets for this contest are on sale now for just $3 at the Beloit Snappers Front Office located at 2301 Skyline Drive, Beloit WI. Tickets may also be purchased the day of the game on April 11.
Gates will open one hour prior to the first pitch.
The Beloit Snappers are a member of the Midwest League and have been the Single-A affiliate of the Oakland Athletics since 2013. For more ticket information, contact the Snappers office at (608) 362-2272 or on our website, www.snappersbaseball.com.
