Bells Spoil Regular Season Home Opener for Gems, Win 5-4

Klamath Falls OR: Gems starter Taylor Johnson (Lane CC, Eugene, OR), pitched four solid innings in his first start of the year, but Nick Baker (Chico State University) was better, pitching five innings of no earned run baseball. An RBI single by Michael Tuttle (Fresno City College) in the 5th inning and a solo home run by Dylan Rogers (Oregon Tech) in the sixth, gave the Gems their biggest lead. But Bellingham came back, scoring four late inning runs and defeating Klamath Falls 5-4 in the opening night of the regular 2013 season at Kiger Stadium.

Jacob Phillips (Campbellsville University) earned the win, pitching 2 1/3 innings of relief. Scott Burke (UCLA) took the loss. Matt Carroll (San Jose State) and Paul Panaccione (Grand Canyon University) each had two hits of the nine total for the Gems. Mark Huberman earned his second save of the year for Bellingham.

Sunday June 9th, the Gems play the second game of the series as they host the Bellingham Bells at Kiger Stadium, with first pitch at 5:05 pm. The Gems Sunday promotion is Senior and Kid's Club Sundays-Seniors get a $1 game ticket discount and Tater Tot Members get in for free-every Sunday Home Game during the season at Kiger Stadium.
