September 18, 2014 - West Coast League (WCL)
Klamath Falls Gems News Release
The recent addition of Justin Barchus as the Klamath Falls Gems new Head Coach is already starting to pay dividends with the signing of Ty Wyatt, from Willamette University. Ty Wyatt was the only freshman selected First Team All-Northwest Conference (NWC) in 2014. For the season, Wyatt led his Bearcats team in nearly every offensive category. In conference play, Wyatt won the NWC batting championship with a .398 average. He also led the League in hits (37) and RBI's (32), while ranking second in slugging percentage (.581) and on base percentage (.447). The power hitting third baseman/first baseman also slugged 4 home runs and tallied 10 doubles during the season.
The post-season honors kept piling up for Wyatt when he was named Second Team All-Region. "Ty had an outstanding season. He was a major part of our offense, hitting in the four hole for most of the year," Willamette Head Coach Aaron Swick said. "Being one of nine freshmen in the country to be selected First Team or Second Team All-Region is not only a testament to Ty's talent but also his incredible work ethic. I was really proud of Ty's season and look forward to seeing his game evolve in the future."
Gems' Head Coach Justin Barchus remarked, "When building a roster there is no better place to start than with Ty Wyatt. Not only is he an incredible talent, he is a fantastic teammate and someone we can build our program around. I've coached Ty in the past - he is a competitor, plays hard and knows how to win. I can personally vouch for his integrity and his commitment to the community. He's the type of player that will personify our program moving forward."
