Kelowna Falcons News Release

Kelowna, BC; In front of a terrific crowd, the Kelowna Falcons would come up short in their 2013 home opener against the Bend Elks 6-4.

The Elks would jump out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning after a two out rally against Falcons starter Jason Mouton.

The Falcons would get on the board in the bottom of the second after Chandler Tracy doubled, Reed Lavallee would bring him in on an RBI single. Lavallee would then score thanks to an RBI sac fly from Darryl Baca to give the Falcons the lead.

It was short lived however as in the top of the third the Elks would score three times on three hits as they battered around the order, taking a 4-2 lead.

The Falcons would get one back in the bottom of the inning on a Tracy solo homerun. He becomes the quickest Falcons player in club history to hit three homers. He needed just four games to do so.

But again in the Elks' very next at bats they would get the run back off Mouton to push the score to 5-3.

In the seventh the Falcons came within one run as Preston Gray would score on an RBI single from pinch hitter Cody Andreyschuk.

However the Elks would respond immediately in the top of the eighth to restore the two run lead, this time off reliever Tyler Dunnington.

Mouton was hit with the loss as the Falcons drop their fourth straight to open the 2013 season.

The Falcons (0-4) and Elks (2-2) will play game two of the three game series on Sunday, with the first pitch at 6:05pm. It's Minor Ball Night, kids wear your Kelowna, Rutland or West Kelowna minor ball jersey and receive a complimentary ticket.
