Lancaster Stormers News Release
Josh Bell slammed a three-run homer off Major League veteran Francisco "K-Rod" Rodriguez in the top of the seventh inning to give the Lancaster Barnstormers a 7-6 lead in Wednesday night's opener.
Unfortunately, it was not enough as the Ducks produced a two-run rally in the bottom of the seventh for a thrilling, 8-7 victory over the 'Stormers.
The series stands even at one game apiece.
Rodriguez, who has 25 saves for the Ducks, walked both Blake Gailen and Ryan Casteel in the seventh before Bell ripped a liner just over the wall in right field to give the Barnstormers their second lead of the night.
Kaleb Fleck (1-1) came on to close out the contest in the bottom of the inning. He got ahead of the first three batters with two strikes, but David Washington tied the game with a mammoth homer to right center, his 22nd of the year. Miles Williams and Dioner Navarro followed with singles to left. A sacrifice bunt by Anthony Vega moved the winning run to third. Manager Ross Peeples opted to walk Dan Lyons intentionally to load the bases. Matt Marksberry came on to face Jordany Valdespin and again got two strikes past the left-handed hitting second baseman. Valdespin took a ball, then punched the winning single into left.
Earlier, Valdespin hit a game-tying, two-run homer in the bottom of the second inning. Lew Ford gave the Ducks leads of 4-3 and 5-4 with RBI doubles deep into the right field corner off starter Jonathan Albaladejo.
Lancaster stole five bases in the game, including a double steal that scored Bell in the top of the second. Each Lancaster starter had a hit. Ryan Casteel had two hits, including an RBI double in the second.
Jose Cuas (2-0) replaced Rodriguez in the seventh and earned the win.
Ty'Relle Harris (0-1) opposes Lorenzo Barcelo (2-0) in the second game of the doubleheader.
