Bellhorn and Sweeney Smash Sounds

August 8, 2003 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Colorado Springs Sky Sox News Release

Mark Sweeney and Mark Bellhorn each hit 2 home runs to lead the Colorado Springs Sky Sox to a 12-7 victory over the Nashville Sounds Thursday night. Bellhorn making his first appearance with the Sox as part of a Major League Rehab stint hit 2 home runs in first 2 career Sky Sox at bats with 5 RBI. Sweeney crushed his 3rd and 4th home runs of the year and his first two since rejoining the Sox from the Rockies. Sweeney's 2nd blast was a grand slam shot in the 4th inning off Sounds reliever Mike Holtz who was coincidentally a teammate of Sweeney's last year in San Diego. Sweeney also collected a Sox season high 7 RBI on the night to go with his 3 hits. Sox starter Randy Flores began real shaky giving up 5 runs in his first 2 innings, but settled down to strike out 7 over 6 innings of work to pick up his 8th win of the season. These two teams meet again Friday with Chris Gissell (5-3, 3.51) taking the hill for the Sox against Dave Williams (5-2, 3.51) of Nashville.
