Bellevue Winning Streak Ends at Eight
January 18, 2005 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Bellevue Blackhawks News Release
Bellevue, WA. Defending ABA Champions, the Long Beach Jam, took an early 11-8 lead, built it to 30 in the second quarter and never looked back, posting a 124-102 victory over the Bellevue Blackhawks and ending the host team's winning streak at eight games. Forward Maurice Spillers led the Jam in scoring and Japanese point guard, Yuta Tabuse, dazzled the record Renton High School arena crowd with precision passing and long range shooting. Long Beach leaped over Bellevue in the Red Division standings, improving to 9-6 while the Blackhawks dropped to 9-8.
Led by forward Eric Sandrin and guard Lavell Brown, the Blackhawks started the third quarter with a flurry. An aggressive, full-court defense and a potent offensive push cut the Jam's lead to five, but the defending champs broke away in the fourth and cruised to an easy win. Game balls go to Spillers, Tabuse and Alvin Jefferson for Long Beach while Sandrin, Brown, Justin Murray and Dontay Harris get the honor for Bellevue.
