RimRockers Avenge Loss to Division Rival

January 18, 2005 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Arkansas RimRockers News Release

Little Rock, AR. The ABA Arkansas RimRockers avenged their January 3rd loss to the Texas Tycoons by defeating them 120-96 at Alltel Arena. Before a crowd of 6342 screaming fans, the RimRockers played a game of fast-paced basketball and the Tycoons could not sustain the pace. Shawnson Johnson held the Tycoons' powerhouse center, Oliver Miller, to a mere 4 points. The RimRockers cuased the Tycoons 24 costly turnovers which they successfully converted into 34 Arkansas points.

After returning to the team following a one-game suspension, Todd Day led in scoring with 31 points. Also scoring in double figures were Kareem Reid with 26 and he also went 10 for 10 from the free throw line. Marco Cole finished with 20 points, 8 rebounds and 3 steals while Daryan Selvy finished his last game as a RimRocker with 5 points, 2 assists and a steal.

The Tycoons had four players finish in double digits with DeRon Rutledge leading the team with 18 points. However, the Tycoons could not catch the early lead the RimRockers established. Although the score was tied three times during the game, the RimRockers had something to prove and made the most of every loose ball. They converted 24 second-chance points, pulled down 56 rebounds, blocked 10 shots and stole the ball from the Tycoons 14 times. It was a terrifically exciting game with two great ABA teams.

The RimRockers will not play in Alltel Arena again until Jan 26th when they face the Nashville Rhythm of the Eastern Division. The RimRockers will begin a road trip on Jan 20 that includes stops in Kentucky and with Ralph Underhill's powerful Cincinnati team.
