Belleville's Ben Sexton Named CCM/AHL Player of the Week
February 26, 2018 - American Hockey League (AHL) News Release
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. ... The American Hockey League announced today that Belleville Senators forward Ben Sexton has been selected as the CCM/AHL Player of the Week for the period ending Feb. 25, 2018.
Sexton contributed to nearly all of the Senators' offense last week, totaling three goals and four assists for seven points in three games.
Sexton had never recorded more than two points in a game in his AHL career before eclipsing that mark twice last week. On Monday afternoon, he recorded a hat trick, added an assist and took a game-high eight shots on goal in Belleville's 5-4 loss to Utica. And after being held scoreless at Binghamton on Friday, Sexton assisted on all three of the Senators' goals vs. Laval on Saturday, giving him seven points on Belleville's eight goals for the week.
A fourth-year pro, Sexton has registered seven goals and seven assists for 14 points in 19 games with Belleville this season, including 12 points in 11 games since returning from a three-month stay on the injured list. The 26-year-old native of Ottawa, Ont., has played 146 career AHL games with Belleville, Albany and Providence, totaling 34 goals and 30 assists for 64 points. He was originally drafted by the Boston Bruins in 2009.
In recognition of being named the CCM/AHL Player of the Week, Sexton will be presented with an etched crystal award prior to an upcoming Senators home game.
