Cedar Rapids, IA (June 8, 2008) - The Burlington Bees allowed three homeruns Sunday afternoon and lost at Cedar Rapids 9-6. With the loss, the Bees were swept by the Kernals in a four-game weekend series.

The day started off in good fashion for the Bees as they scored three runs in the top of the first inning. Adrian Ortiz led the inning off with a triple and then scored on a Mike Moustakas sacrifice fly. David Lough reached base in the inning via a walk and then he came around to score when Jason Taylor hit a homerun to left field to give the Bees a 3-0 lead.

The Kernals got two of those runs back in the first inning and then took their first lead of the game in the second when they scored four more. Cedar Rapids scored at least two runs in each of the first four innings and led 9-3 after four innings of play.

The Bees got back within three runs in the seventh inning. Jason Taylor led off with a single and moved to third on a Kyle Martin double. Nick Van Stratten hit a single to score both Taylor and Martin. After stealing second base, Van Stretten scored on a Juan Rivera single. The Bees got the tying run to the plate in the ninth but could not score any more runs as they lost 9-6.

Sam Runion got the start for the Bees and struggled. In three innings, he allowed seven runs, five of which were earned, on nine hits. He took the loss to move to 1-4 on the season. Danny Gutierrez, who was activated off the disabled list prior to the game, pitched three innings allowing two runs on five hits with two strikeouts. Tony Bradley pitched two scoreless innings for the Bees.

The Bees had 16 hits on the day. Juan Rivera, who was added to the roster prior to the game, went 3-4 with an RBI. Adrian Ortiz and Jason Taylor each had two hits.

The Bees return home to Community Field Monday night to begin a four-game series with Wisconisn. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 with Danny Duffy taking the mound. The game can be heard on 1490 KBUR and online at www.GoBees.com.
