Great Lakes Loons News Release
MIDLAND, MI - A quality start from Josh Wall wasn't enough on Sunday afternoon as the Great Lakes Loons fell to the Burlington Bees in front of 5,663 fans by a score of 7-5.
The Sunday crowd pushed the Dow Diamond season attendance over the 200,000 mark on the season (202,983) as the team sold out the third straight game in this series.
The Bees jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second inning highlighted by a Jase Turner RBI-single and a Felix Peralta sacrifice fly. The score would remain the same until the fifth when the Loons took the lead thanks to a three-run outburst highlighted by Matt Berezays RBI-single and Tommy Giles' RBI-triple to make it 3-2.
In the seventh, the Bees would get three runs of their own thanks in part to Jamar Waltons solo home run to straightaway centerfield to make it 5-3 Burlington. The Loons would even the score at five with single runs in the seventh and eighth thanks to James Peterson's RBI-double and a successful double steal attempt by Loons manager Lance Parrish to score Juan Rivera.
But in the ninth, Loons reliever David Pfeiffer struggled while allowing Matt Morizio to knock in the go-ahead run with a RBI-single to break the 5-5 tie and give the Bees the lead.
Josh Wall started for the Loons and allowed only two runs in six quality innings of work before being relieved by Thomas Melgarejo, Pfeiffer and Miguel Ramirez pitched a combined three innings while Pfeiffer got the loss. His record dropped to 2-2.
Aaron Hartsock (6-2) worked 1.2 scoreless innings for the Bees in picking up his sixth win of the season.
The Bees-Loons series concludes Monday night when right-hander Arismendy Castillo will get the start for Great Lakes. Game time is 7:05pm. Brad Golder and Dan Hasty will call the action from Midland as the game will be carried in Mid-Michigan on the flagship home of Loons Baseball, Thunder Country 100.9 WYLZ.
