Lancaster Stormers News Release
The New Britain Bees rapped out 16 hits, 15 of them singles, to take a 9-3 decision over the Lancaster Barnstormers Saturday night at Clipper Magazine Stadium. It was the Bees second straight win in the series and sent the Barnstormers to their fourth loss in five games on the homestand.
Both Rainy Lara (7-4) and Brooks Hall (7-3) cruised through three scoreless innings on barely over 30 pitches, but the visiting Bees broke through in the fourth inning. Deibinson Romero led off with a single to center. With Rogers going to a full count, the Bees put Romero in motion and stayed out of a double play. Matt Tuisasosopo followed with a groundball single up the middle putting runners at the corners with one out. Jamar Walton rolled a grounder into right, giving his team the lead. Jonathan Galvez hit a tapper toward short on which Vladimir Frias could only go to first, driving in the second run of the inning.
Romero continued the success for the Bees in the fifth inning with an RBI bloop single to left, scoring Darren Ford who reached on a one-out bunt, making it 3-0.
The bulk of the damage was done in the sixth inning. Hall's tough luck night continued when the Barnstormers defense came up just shy of catches on the first two batters of the inning. Trayvon Robinson made a sliding attempt on a shallow fly to left by Matt Tuaisosopo leading off the frame. Jamar Walton followed with a pop up which glanced off the screen, barely out of catcher Anderson De La Rosa's reach. The next pitch hit Walton in the ankle. Galvez beat out a bunt toward third, and Ryan Wagner was nicked by a pitch to force home a run. Garrett Granitz took over on the hill. The submarine throwing right-hander allowed three additional runs to score, one on a Vince Conde grounder and two on singles by Ford and Brock Stassi.
Lara was chased by four hits, including RBI singles by Blake Gailen and Ryan Casteel in the bottom of the sixth, but New Britain reliever Sam Gervacio shut the door, quickly getting the final two outs.
Stassi and Barnstormers hitting coach Josh Bell, in the lineup at second base, exchanged late inning home runs to produce the final margin.
The Barnstormers will entertain the Bees in the finale of the series on Sunday. Jonathan Albaladejo (6-5) gets the start for Lancaster against lefty Andy Van Hekken (4-5). Fans may tune into BRC 11 or the Barnstormers YouTube Channel, beginning at 1:00.
NOTES: Bell's homer was his first hit of the season...Romero went 5-for-5, the first five-hit game by an opposing player since Welington Dotel performed the feat for Bridgeport in August of 2016...Casteel drove in a run for the fourth consecutive game...He has hit safely in five straight and nine of ten...Gailen picked up his 60th RBI of the season...Stephen Johnson struck out the final three New Britain hitters for the second night in a row.
