Bees Open Series At Clinton With A Win

Clinton, IA - The Burlington Bees came back from a seventh inning deficit to defeat Clinton 3-1 Saturday night at Alliant Energy Field. The Bees scored one run in the eight and two in the ninth to open the four-game series with a victory.

Clinton scored their only run in the bottom of the third inning. The score stayed 1-0 though the seventh inning. In the top of the eighth inning, Sean McCauley led off with a double. Nick Van Stratten then pinch-ran for McCauley and was sacrificed to third base. After one more out was recorded, Antonio Jimenez hit a two-out RBI double to score Van Stratten and tied the game 1-1.

The Bees took the lead in the ninth inning. With one out, J.D. Alfaro walked and moved to second on a ground-out. With two outs, Nick Francis doubled to score Alfaro and give the Bees a 2-1 lead. David Wood then gave the Bees some insurance with another RBI double to score Francis.

Luis Cota got the start for the Bees. In five innings, he allowed one run on three hits with five strikeouts and two walks. Justin Garcia pitched three innings allowing just three hits with three strikeouts. He got the win and is now 1-0. Barry Bowden pitched the ninth for his second save of the season.

Nick Francis led the way at the plate for the Bees going 3-5 and raising his average to .413. McCauley and Jimenez each had two hits.

The Bees continue the series at Clinton Sunday afternoon. Zach Peterson is the scheduled starter for the Bees. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00.
