Babineau to DL; Perez joins Hawks

South Bend, IN - In conjunction with the Arizona Diamondbacks, the South Bend Silver Hawks have announced that catcher Ryan Babineau has been placed on the seven day disabled list, and catcher Rossmel Perez will join the club from extended spring training.

Babineau has started 10 games for South Bend behind the plate, hitting .125 with no home runs and one RBI. He was a 17th round selection in the 2008 First-Year Player Draft out of UCLA, where he was the team captain for the '08 season. Last season with Yakima (short-season A), Babineau hit .231 in 43 games with a home run and 13 RBI.

Perez was signed by the Diamondbacks on January 15, 2006 as a non-drafted free agent from Miranda, Venezuela. With Missoula (rookie league) last season, Perez hit .243 with no home runs and 11 RBI. Perez spent the '06 and '07 with Boca Chica in the Dominican Summer League, batting .195 in 2006 before hitting .321 in 2007.

Perez is expected to be in uniform for Saturday's game against the Dayton Dragons at Coveleski Stadium. First pitch is at 2:00 PM, with pregame coverage beginning on 1620 AM The Point at 1:40 PM. For more information about the team or to purchase tickets, please visit www.silverhawks.com.
