Bees inject a sting to the Cougars, 4-0

The story of the afternoon was Bees' right-hander, Jonah Bayliss (1-3), as he shut out the Cougars through seven innings, leading Burlington (6-2) to a 4-0 victory over the Kane County Cougars (18-8).
With the loss, the Cougars dropped their first series of the season, after losing two of three to the Bees. Overall, the Cougars return home after a 4-3 roadtrip, and remain at top of the Western Division. Chris Mowday (1-2) suffered the loss for Kane County, allowing one hit on three runs, walking five and fanning four in 4 1/3 innings.
Bayliss dominated the Cougars for his first win of the season. At one point, the former 7th round pick by the Kansas City Royals in the 2002 draft, retired 18 in a row. He tied a season high with nine strikeouts, scattering just two hits, and didn't allow a walk.
Burlington's game winning RBI came off Mowday in the second inning. Luis Gonzalez blasted a two-out solo home run to left field, his first of the year. In addition, Gonzalez earned his first RBI of the season.
The Bees scored an unearned run in the third inning to take a 2-0 advantage. Damaso Espino scored when shortstop, John McCurdy, misplayed a ground ball off the bat of Tim Frend.
In the fourth inning, the walks came back to haunt Mowday and Manny Rodriguez. Frend provided the final damage, smacking a two-run double over the head of left fielder, Brian Stavisky, scoring Espino (walked by Mowday) and Erick Dean (walked by Rodriguez). All four runs scored by the Bees came with two outs.
The Cougars return home on Thursday night with a showdown against the second place Peoria Chiefs. The two teams will play a four-game series through the weekend. Drew Dickinson LHP (3-1, 2.83), who recently was named the pitcher of the week, makes his sixth start of the season for Kane County. Josh Teekel RHP (2-0, 0.71), will make his fifth appearance for Peoria.
