Bees Blank Snappers in First Home Win

Burlington, IA. - As Midwesterners battle the extended winter, The Burlington Bees (2-1) are getting hot against the Beloit Snappers (2-2). The Bees shut-out the Snappers 4-0 behind a solid five inning effort from Mitchell Traver. With five strike outs and only giving up one hit, Traver set the stage for Brett Hanewich and James Ziemba to close the game for the Bees. "Pitchers pounded the zone and allowed the defense to work," said Bees Manager Jack Howell. Bees pitching would combine to strike out seven Snapper batters in 31 at-bats and give up six hits.

Bees Batters Find Sweet Spot

Early in the game, Snappers pitcher Michael Danielak had trouble finding the strike zone and Burlington batters capitalized. After Jo Adell hit a line drive single to center field, Brandon Marsh would earn a walk, leaving Julio Garcia with an opportunity to drive in the Bees first run of the day. Garcia singled to right, bringing Adell home and opening the scoring column for the Bees, making the score 1-0.

In the second inning, Bees catcher Harrison Wenson gave the fans plenty to cheer about, with his

2-run homerun to right field, putting the Bees up 3-0. Coach Jack Howell had a great deal to be happy about at that point in the game. "Big hit early by Wenson and we added an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth and pulled out a good team win." The insurance run Howell talked about, came after Leonardo Rivas reached third on a line drive to center field, and Jo Adell sealed the deal with a sacrifice flyball to right field, bringing Rivas home, and setting the game's final score at 4-0 Bees.

Breaking Down the Numbers

Burlington hitters would strike out nine times, earn eight walks, drive in four RBI with eight hits for the night. The series with Beloit is set to continue tomorrow at 4pm, with a double header, that includes a make-up game from April, 9th. Isaac Mattson will take the mound to start the Bees off in game one, as the Bees look to get their third and fourth wins of the 2018 season.
