Dayton Dragons News Release
Dayton, Ohio - Narciso Crook collected two doubles, a triple, and four runs batted in to lead the Dayton Dragons to their fourth straight victory as they defeated the Lake County Captains 9-3 on Wednesday night. The Dragons will try for a sweep of the four-game set with the Captains on Thursday.
The Dragons built a big lead early, scoring four runs in the first inning and four more in the third to take an 8-0 lead. The eight runs over the first three innings surpassed the Dragons previous 2018 season high for runs in a game of four.
In the first inning, Jose Garcia and Stuart Fairchild pulled off a double steal, and when the catcher's throw to second base sailed into center field on the play, Garcia came in to score to make it 1-0. Leandro Santana delivered a two-out, run-scoring double to make it 2-0, and Crook followed with a two-run double to center to make it 4-0.
In the third inning, the Dragons tacked on four more runs. Crook drove in a run with a bases loaded ground out, and Hendrik Clementina followed with a three-run home run to make it 8-0. After Lake County scored two runs in the top of the fifth, Crook tripled to bring in another run for the Dragons to make it 9-2. Lake County closed out the scoring with a run in the sixth.
Dragons starting pitcher Mac Sceroler (1-1) earned the win, going six innings and allowing three runs on six hits with one walk and four strikeouts. Luis Alecis followed Sceroler to the mound and worked a perfect seventh inning. Cory Thompson followed with a perfect eighth, striking out two. John Ghyzel pitched the ninth, allowing only an infield single with two strikeouts. Dragons pitchers walked one and struck out eight after notching 11 strikeouts without a walk on Tuesday.
The Dragons collected eight hits. Crook led the way with three extra base hits, and Clementina's home run was his second in three games played this season.
Notes: The Dragons will try on Thursday for their first sweep of a four-game series since June 30-July 3, 2017 when they swept Fort Wayne at Fifth Third Field.
Up Next: The Dragons (4-3) and Captains (4-3) meet on Thursday night at 7:00. Tyler Mondile, a New Jersey native who started for the Dragons on Saturday night in their home opener, will pitch for Dayton. Lake County will turn to Kirk McCarty.
