
Beckwith and D-Braves Slam Royals 11-4

Burlington, NC-The Danville Braves handled the Burlington Royals with ease in last night's 11-4 victory in the series finale. Billy Beckwith went 2-for-5 with a double and Danville's first grand slam of 2011. The Braves managed to score in all but two innings.
Nick De Santiago helped give the D-Braves an early lead in his return to the Danville lineup. De Santiago had been recovering from heat exhaustion that occurred in a game against the Kingsport Mets on July 12. His single with two outs in the first inning scored Kyle Kubitza and gave the D-Braves a one run lead.
Burlington tied the game up in the bottom of the second inning but with the help of Beckwith, the D- Braves took the lead again. Kubitza reached on a fielding error by second baseman, Justin Trapp, and Beckwith doubled him home on a line drive to center field. Burlington tied the game again in the bottom of the third at two.
In the fourth, the Braves got two more runs. Kenny Fleming, Fernando De Los Santos, Kubitza, and Brandon Drury all singled consecutively. The four hits led to two Danville runs and a 4-2 lead. The Royals were able to tie the game up yet again in the bottom half of the inning off of Danville starter, David Filak. Lane Adams struck a two run single to center field scoring Jin-Ho Shin and Jose Rodriguez.
Danville managed to score a run in each of the fifth and sixth. In the fifth, Edison Sanchez doubled and was driven home by a Chase Larsson single. In the sixth, De Los Santos also doubled and was able to score on a wild pitch by Malcom Culver.
It was in the eighth inning that Beckwith's bat struck again. With three men on an just one out, Beckwith connected on a ball that he put into deep right field for a grand slam. It was his fifth homerun of the season and the team's first grand slam of 2011. The moon shot by Beckwith made the score 10-4.
Danville ended up getting one more run in the ninth inning. Williams Perez made a three and one-third inning relief appearance got the win for Danville. He is now 2-0 while the team is 12-14. Joe Lucas pitched the eighth and ninth for Danville. He did not allow a runner to reach base.
The Braves travel to Pulaski for a three game set starting tonight. Pulaski and Danville have the same record and both stand three games out from the first place Blue Jays. The D-Braves will return home, July 21.
