
Blue Jays Too Much for Royals

Bluefield, WV- The Eastern Division leading Bluefield Blue Jays downed the Burlington Royals on Monday night, 8-5. Robinson Yambati takes the loss for the Royals, while Dievy Estrada records the win, with Ian Kadish registering the save.
Bluefield opened the scoring in their first at bat. Gustavo Pierre homered over the centerfield fence, for his fifth of the season, and a 1-0 lead for the home team. Burlington responded in the top of the second inning when Murray Watts hit his 11th home run of the year to tie the game at one.
The Blue Jays would score five runs over the next three innings, but it would not go uninterrupted. In the top of the fourth, Justin Trapp would lead off with his fifth home run. Jorge Bonifacio would follow with a double and would later score from third on a groundout from Cam Connor.
The Royals sent eight men to the plate in the sixth. With runners on the corners, Bonifacio grounded into a double play, allowing Lane Adams to come home. Later in the inning, Watts would score on a single from Kenny Swab to pull Burlington within a single run.
In the home half of the seventh inning, Bluefield would add to their lead. Two RBI singles would make it a three run game. The Royals had just one base runner in the last two innings, and could not overcome the deficit.
Yambati gave up four runs on five hits in two and a third innings, while being dealt the loss. Andy Ferguson allowed three hits and two runs in two and two thirds. Rudy Brown followed Ferguson, and coughed up six hits and two runs in two innings on the mound. Alex Rivers struck out two of the three batters he faced in the ninth.
Bluefield used four pitchers after their starter, Estrada, went five inning, giving up four hits and four runs, three earned. Kenllie Santana walked three batters and allowed a run in two thirds of an inning in relief. Myles Duvall, Jonathan Lucas, and Kadish combined to throw three and one third innings, allowing two hits and no runs.
Watts was the only Royal with a multi-hit game, going 2-for-2 with a home run and two walks. Trapp went 1-for-2, walking twice and homering.
Daniel Arcila had a home run for one of his two hits of the night, while Gustavo Pierre went 1-for-4 with a home run. Christopher Hawkins went 2-for-3 in the series opener, and was one of five Blue Jays with two hits on the night.
The Royals are 2-2 in their last four game, and will go for their 11th win tomorrow night in Bluefield starting at 7:00.
