Mariners Drop the Ball Late Against Braves

Pulaski, VA (July 18, 2011) ¬- The Pulaski Mariners returned home Monday night to take on the Danville Braves. Tonight was a unique night at Calfee Park with 18 walks and 29 strikeouts being issued throughout the contest. The Mariners took the lead early in the game, but couldn't hold off the Braves in the ladder half of the game that ended in an 8-6 victory for Danville.

The Braves took the lead in the first inning on an RBI double by Brandon Drury, followed by a 2 RBI double by cleanup hitter William Beckwith to make the score 3-0 early.

The Mariners would come back to take the lead in the second inning scoring, five runs on three hits. Dillion Hazlett started the scoring off for the Mariners in the inning drawing a bases loaded walk. That was then followed by RBI singles by Jean Acevedo and Guillermo Pimentel to slide the lead in Pulaski's favor 6-3 entering the third inning. Strong pitching from the Braves bullpen held the Mariners to just one hit for the remainder of the game.

The Braves tied the game in the eighth inning on a solo homerun by Brandon Drury. They went on to win the game in the top of the ninth scoring two runs on a two RBI single by Kurt Fleming.

Jarrett Miller (2-0) received the win for the Braves pitching the final three innings in shut out fashion striking out eight batters along the way. Benjamin Cornwell (0-1) was hit with the loss for the Mariners throwing the final two innings and allowing two runs (one earned).

Join the Mariners tomorrow night for Christmas in July. Fans are encouraged to wear red and green attire to join in on the festivities.

Fans who donate a new toy will receive a general admission ticket for half price (does not apply to reserve seats). All the toys given during the event will be donated to the Pulaski Christmas Store.

Holiday themed music will be played throughout the game, and all the on-field promotions will be Christmas themed. Fans will also be given a chance to get their photo taken with team mascot Slyder. The game is set to start at 7:00 p.m.
