Beavers announce promotions for final homestand of season

PORTLAND, Ore. - The Portland Beavers return home Saturday for a nine-game homestand, their final series of home games for the 2006 regular season. Complete with one-of-a-kind promotions and events, the final homestand will feature fun and excitement for fans of all ages.

The Beavers will pay tribute to local baseball icon Jack Cain on Aug. 26, when 2,000 bobbleheads of the team's senior advisor will be given away, courtesy of G.I. Joe's. Cain, a long-time baseball ambassador of the city, is the former owner of the Portland Rockies.

This Saturday's game will feature a special appearance by the Blues Brothers, with a host of music and classic entertainment in store.

Be sure to arrive early on Sunday, Aug. 27, as the Beavers hold a special Fan Appreciation Day, with 2007 Beavers calendars being given away to the first 2,000 fans through the gates, courtesy of the Portland Marriott Downtown Waterfront. Star Wars characters will be on-site for photos and autographs, kids club members will participate in a special pre-game parade, and all fans will be invited to run the bases for the final time this season.

Saturday, August 19

BLUES BROTHERS APPERANCE/FRED MEYER RETRO SATURDAY/PDX49 CAP GIVEAWAY - Beavers vs. Salt Lake - 7:05 p.m.

The first 500 fans through the gates will receive a free PDX 49 cap, courtesy of FOX 12 and PDX 49. Every home Saturday this season, the Beavers will be wearing special throwback uniforms from the 1956 season for Fred Meyer Retro Saturdays presented by KGON 92.3. Each Saturday Beavers game, one lucky fan will win one of the throwback jerseys, and they will get to take the jersey home on the last Saturday, August 26. The game will also feature a special appearance by the Blues Brothers, with a host of music and classic entertainment in store.

Sunday, August 20

AMERICAN FAMILY INSURANCE KIDS SUNDAY/SCHOOLHOUSE SUPPLIES DRIVE - Beavers vs. Salt Lake - 2:05 p.m.

As part of Back-to-School Day, the Beavers will be hosting a Schoolhouse Supplies drive presented by Supercuts, with fans encouraged to bring along school supplies to donate. The first 2,500 fans will receive pencil pouches, courtesy of Supercuts. It's also Mascot Mania Day, with more than 20 mascots in attendance. As part of American Family Insurance Kids Sunday presented by Soft Rock K103, players will be in the Radio Disney Fun Zone before the game signing autographs and several kids will be selected to play catch on the field. All kids are also invited to run the bases after the game.

Monday, August 21

G.I. JOE'S BASEBALL BINGO NIGHT - Beavers vs. Salt Lake - 7:05 p.m.

It's Sports Radio 1080 The Fan Baseball Bingo Day presented by G.I. Joe's. The first 1,000 fans through the gates will receive a free bingo card, with letters and numbers corresponding to specific plays that occur on the field. Follow the game closely to win great prizes.

Tuesday, August 22

TACO TUESDAY/BUSINESSPERSON'S SPECIAL/BAT DOWN HUNGER - Beavers vs. Salt Lake - 12:05 p.m.

Local businesspeople looking to get out of the office and enjoy the beautiful weather can take advantage of this special Beavers day game at PGE Park. Gates open at 11 a.m. for the special 12 noon start. Be sure to bring a can (or two) of food with you and support the effort to "Bat Down Hunger." Fans who donate cans this Tuesday, will receive a 'Buy-One, Get-One' for this day's game. The Portland Beavers are teaming up with 98/7 KUPL, St. Vincent de Paul and Les Schwab to help collect canned food. Fans attending Tuesday's game can also enjoy $1 tacos in the Widmer Garden on this Taco Tuesday presented by 98/7 KUPL.

Wednesday, August 23

ZENNER'S DOLLAR DOG WEDNESDAY/PRE-GAME ALL-FAITH CONCERT - Beavers vs. Las Vegas - 7:05 p.m.

Mix 107.5 presents Zenner's Dollar Dog Wednesday, where hot dogs are available for just $1. Gates open at 5:30 p.m. for a special pre-game all-faith concert held in the Widmer Garden.

Thursday, August 24

MILLER LITE THURSDAY/BEACH NIGHT - Beavers vs. Las Vegas - 7:05 p.m.

The popular Thursday night tradition returns for its final Beavers game with specials being offered for Miller Lite Thursday presented by Jammin' 95.5. Fans are encouraged to wear Hawaiian shirts and other beach attire as the Beavers celebrate Beach Night. Special beach-themed promotions and music will be going on all night.

Friday, August 25

FAMILY FRIDAY/DISNEY DAY/MILITARY APPRECIATION WEEKEND - Beavers vs. Las Vegas - 7:05 p.m.

The Beavers host FOX 12 and PDX 49 Family Friday presented by Radio Disney. Clowns and face-painters will be roaming the concourse to entertain fans and several families will be selected to play catch on the field before the game. Radio Disney will also be giving away a trip to Disneyland and prizes for fans wearing Disney apparel. As part of Military Appreciation Weekend, several military vehicles will be parked around the stadium and the U.S. Army will be providing a rock wall for fans to climb.

Saturday, August 26

FRED MEYER RETRO SATURDAY/JACK CAIN BOBBLEHEAD GIVEAWAY/JERSEY-OFF-OUR BACK NIGHT - Beavers vs. Las Vegas - 7:05 p.m.

The first 2,000 fans through the gates will receive a Jack Cain bobblehead doll, courtesy of G.I. Joe's. Every home Saturday this season, the Beavers will be wearing special throwback uniforms from the 1956 season for Fred Meyer Retro Saturdays presented by KGON 92.3. Each Saturday Beavers game, one lucky fan won one of the throwback jerseys, and they will get to take the jersey home after the game. A silent auction will be held before and during the game for any of the remaining retro jerseys, with the winners being presented the jerseys by the players after the game.
